ABCs - "M" is for Masterful
"Famous cartographer Gerhard Kremer, better know as Mercator, is essential the father of the modern map. He also loved the new style (at the time) of writing known as Chancery Cursive, better known today as Italic which he learned for the purpose of lettering his maps. He became so good at it that in 1541 he published his own manual on how to write Italic hand. This M follows the style espoused by Mercator."
