"A unique ampersand used by Francesco Moro throughout his c. 1560 treatise in falconry. Though not a common design I have found this variant in the works of other scribes.

The ampersand was much more popular throughout the past 600 years than it is today. So popular that it was used in some fun & interesting ways. One such interesting use was to create an abbreviation of the word et cetera, which today we write as etc., but at one time was commonly written as &c. Here are a few historic examples from the 1500 thru the 1900s."
