Minerals - Aragonite - English Italian Hand
"Aragonite is calcium carbonate and chemically the same as the more common calcite, but with a different crystal structure, usually growing in clumps of hexagonally shaped tubes. White to milky clear, inclusions of sand gives specimens a brown color. Aragonite is a principle component of pearl and coral.
Calligraphically, the "A" is a creation of my own with the rest of the letterforms being fairly common Italian Hand. The two notable exceptions are the "r" & "g." The "g" is, again, my own creation where I took advantage of a happy accident that gave me the opportunity to marry one of the flourishes to the body of the "g" to form a script "linked-g." I've never seen a "g" like this in historical Italian Hand. The "r," though not familiar to today's eye, was in continual use from 1600 up to 1900; from Lucas Materot circa 1608, to Silas Packard circa 1890; used in Italy, France, Holland, England, and eventually America."
