Over the years I have cataloged 38 variations in 5 categories.

The versions I'm showing here are of one of the 5 categories, the "flagged-r," which looks like a lowercase print-style r. The element springing from the stem on the l/c r is called the "flag." These are a few variations found in traditional English Roundhand. The first example (upper left) is the most common.

The example to its right is a less common subtle variation. When doing this version make the branching hairline slightly straighter so the flag doesn't project to far to the right. The other variants are less common forms with the looped-flag being very rare. The last 2 on the bottom right were usually done as finals."

~ 2011, Don Marsh~
©2011 Don Marsh

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0640/7828/2846/files/English_Roundhand_r_Flag_Variations_2011_Don_Marsh.jpg?v=1769881094
