"A Gothic Uncial 'A'. This type of letterform was commonly used for initial letters or as a Versal, so called because it was used to begin a verse or paragraph. Based on round shapes, Gothic Uncials were a somewhat casually hand-drawn letter as opposed to the more meticulous written letters within the text. Their shapes and construction lend themselves to many variations of detail and ornamentation."
