Italian Style Fonts

"Italian fonts: In 19th century typography letterforms described as reversed type, because the serifs are heavier than the main strokes, were called "Italian" or "Italienne" letters. Another even older term was French Antique. Here are a couple faces that illustrate the point. The "Playbill" caption is from "Encyclopedia of Type Faces; Jaspert, Berry & Johnson".
