Astronomy - Messenger - English Roundhand
"A little celebration of NASA's Messenger, which on Friday, March 18th, became the first spacecraft to orbit Mercury. Messenger is slated to perform numerous scientific tasks, one of which will be to completely map the surface of the innermost planet. I wanted the letterforms to convey Messenger's elliptical orbit around Mercury. In fact the initial oval traces an orbit around a tiny red dot signifying the planet Mercury. The letterforms are executed as simple line-work, but the ornamentation implies the reflective characteristic of the silvery element mercury. The "g" is a playful nod to the ancient alchemical sigil for Mercury. The stark beauty of the planet itself looms in the background."
