Runes - "Zeitgeist"

"This is an example of runic letters created for my personal entertainment. Runes were an ancient alphabetic system of Northern Europeans (especially Nordic) and Anglo-Saxon. Usually a carved letterform, they were historically monoline and stick-figure-like. This is a faired inline version I made up, though the characters are historic. The word is "zeitgeist" (spirit of the times) executed with rapidograph. The "dragon smoke" is an artificial metallic gold ink applied with a crow quill pen.

I have a note on the back of the original art that the swirling gold background by itself took 6 hours."
