Ampersand - 1940 Era
"This distinctive circa 1939/40 ampersand bearing both typographic & calligraphic traits, has a decidedly 20th century sensibility — Side note: Up through the 1700s, there was a common shorthand character for "et" which looked very much like a numeral 7. Use of that mark, known as a tironian et, dates back to the period of the Romans, reached it's zenith of popularity with scribes in the middle ages. Intentionally or not, this modern ampersand also seems to contain the spirit of that ancient tironian 7-like form, albeit reversed."
