Minerals - Apophyllite - English Italian Hand

"A favorite from my mineral collection, apophyllite is popular with collectors. I'm not sure why I'm so fond of this piece. I think it may be because it reminds me of old Coke bottle glass from when I was a kid. I also like the neat crystal structure of a cube with beveled corners. You can't see it in this image, but if held up to the light one can see another crystal cube inside this one.

In this art I added a strong French influence to my Italian Hand as the early English Writing Masters such as More, Wigan, Seddon, & Ayres would have done. I also purposely chose characters here which fell into disuse by about 1720 in favor of the more simplified forms that resulted through the refinement of Italian Hand by the next generation of English Writing Masters, penmen such as Clark, Bickham, Champion, Austin, et al."
