Minerals - Chalcanthite - English Italian Hand

"A beautiful gift from a truly wonderful friend, Pamela Kaufmann. This is chalcanthite, a water-soluble sulfate of rich electric blue crystals. The color derives from copper, the name from Greek meaning copper flower. Chalcanthite is commonly found growing on the walls of old copper mines where ground water contacts oxidized copper, as the water evaporates it leaves behind chalcanthite crystals.

The elegance of the English-Italian Hand is a perfect vehicle to celebrate such a rich mineral. I have no special notes regarding this lettering art, other than it gave me the opportunity to express my joy of such a kind gift! This chalcanthite now enjoys a prominent spot in my mineral collection."
