"Great Mother" Calligraphy
"Did this piece, chapter 20th of the Tao Te Ching, around 1990. The chapter is about being opposite of others, so rendering it in a Back-Sloping Chancery, á la Tagliente, seemed like a good choice. Besides, I've always enjoyed the attention getting aesthetic of this unique style… plus it's fun to do. Layout is classic 14th c. geometric format; the calligraphy was done using a Brause nib on Canson Mi Teintes cream, warm medium gray gouache and 22 carat XX deep gold leaf. Someday I'm going to have to frame this one."
