Novelty Lettering - Cut Letters

"One variation of a simple decorative style from the 14th c. known as Cut Letter. The letters could be created in a variety of ways, i.e., pen lifts, drawing or retouching. But originally the style arose during the carved wooden printing plate period of the 1500s. After carving the letters one or more lines were cut through the medial area of each line of text on the block which when printed would produce a unifying cut pattern."
