Novelty Lettering - Lettera Rognosa

"One of my favorite novelty styles, rarely seen, even in collections of ornamental writing, this style was a popular throughout the entire century of the 1500s. It was used by scribes to demonstrate their level of skill. The style was called Lettera Rognosa (Mangy Letter) in Italy, the French called it Lettera Frizée (Curly Letter). Other than moving the pen in 45° jags to create the strokes, there were no rules. Every scribe had his own unique version of this hand. I've found about 4 basic categories of various versions of this style of which this is the fanciest."
