Oblique Velvet Letter - "M"

"Easily confused with "pearl letter," this is an example of another victorian style that was very popular know as "velvet letter." Rendered here as an oblique rather than upright form, this example uses simple diamond shape ornamentation. But any one of dozens of possible ornate patterns could be used to dress up the letters.

A lot of people associate Velvet and Pearl style with theater and circus. But they were common on stock certificates, diplomas, testimonials etc."
